Incentive Traffic?

Question:

What is incentivization and why shouldn’t I do it?

Answer:

Incentivization is when you encourage a visitor to fill in a form or click on a link by offering them a reward or a prize.

The reason that incentivization is discouraged in some instances is because incentivized leads often gives the advertiser customers who are not interested in the product or service they have to offer. Incentivization also give advertisers a false sense of the level of interest in their product as incentivized leads may not be interested in acquiring the product or service at all.

There are instances where incentivization is acceptable especially in certain sale campaigns. In the case where a website owner wants to reward a customer for purchasing a product through their website, that incentivization is acceptable in the sense that the customer actually purchased the product. And giving a prize or reward in this case could be seen as saying thank for using my website to make your purchase.

Isn’t this just another classic case of, “It’s not what you do, but how you do it?”
